Alabama gymnasts again hold down the top spot on three of the four apparatus in the current national rankings.
For the second week in a row, junior Ashley Miles is the nation's No. 1 gymnast on the vault and floor exercise. Freshman Terin Humphrey is No. 1 on the balance beam, also for the second consecutive week.
Miles is also ranked No. 4 in the all-around and 10th on the uneven bars. Humphrey is fifth on the uneven bars. Senior Alexis Brion is ranked second on the floor exercise.
Senior Michelle Reeser is No. 10 on the balance beam while junior Mari-Christine Bayer is 19th on the floor exercise.
As a team, Alabama is No. 6 nationally. Utah remains No. 1, followed by Michigan, UCLA, LSU and Florida. Georgia checks in at No. 7 while BYU, Nebraska and Oklahoma round out the top-10. Alabama faces No. 16 Auburn this Friday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
Primed by Miles and Brion, Alabama still ranks No. 1 on the floor exercise with a season average of 49.331. The Tide is sixth on the balance beam, eighth on the vault and ninth on the uneven bars.
In addition to being the Tide's annual meeting with its in-state rival, this Friday's Alabama-Auburn meet will also be "Target the Cure" night in Coleman Coliseum. Fans of both schools are encouraged to "Think Pink" and "Wear Pink" as the Crimson Tide strives to raise awareness for breast cancer. For tickets, call the Alabama Ticket Office at 205.348.BAMA or online at www.rolltide.com.
