(Tuesday, February 22, 2005) [ Press Releases: Archives ]

After posting the league's best all-around score of the year, junior Ashley Miles has once again been named Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week.

Miles, who scored a career best 39.675 to carry the Crimson Tide over No. 7 Georgia in Athens last week, has been named SEC Gymnast of the Week four times in seven weeks so far this season.

"Ashley has been incredible this season and she keeps improving each week," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "She has obviously adjusted very well from competing on three events last season to going all-around this year. We're very proud that she continues to garner this kind of recognition in the nation's top conference."

Miles has competed in the all-around five times in her career, all coming this season and she has won all five.

In addition to winning the all-around against the Bulldogs, Miles also won the vault with a 9.975, the balance beam with a career high 9.9 and the floor exercise with a 9.95. The three-time NCAA Champion has scored 9.9 or better on every vault and floor exercise routine this season, including four vaults of 9.975 or better and four floor exercise routines of 9.95.

The nation's best on the vault and floor exercise, she has been ranked in the top-5 in the all-around most of this season. Miles and her Tide teammates head to Fayetteville, Ark. this Friday to face the Arkansas Ladybacks.
