Alabama jumped to third this week in the latest national gymnastics rankings, up from seventh a week ago.
The Crimson Tide is the Southeastern Conference's top ranked team, coming just behind No. 1 Utah and second ranked Nebraska. LSU and UCLA round out the top five.
Alabama's bounce in the rankings comes from an outstanding 197.100 road performance against Stanford. It was the Tide's second highest score of the season and best road mark. Off from competition this weekend, the Tide will face UNC Friday, March 18 in Coleman Coliseum for its regular season finale.
Through the end of the season, the rankings are determined by regional qualifying score or RQS. RQS is formulated by adding the top three away scores, the next three highest scores, dropping the high score and dividing by five. The RQS determines seeding into the NCAA regional championships.
The Tide is ranked No. 1 on the floor exercise, thanks in large part to a season best 49.55 at Stanford. Alabama is second on the uneven bars, seventh on the vault and 10th on the balance beam.
Individually, junior Ashley Miles retains her strangle hold on the No. 1 spot in both the vault and floor exercise. She is also ranked 10th in the all-around and 17th on the uneven bars.
Senior Alexis Brion is 18th on the floor exercise and 25th on the vault while junior Mari-Christine Bayer is 21st on the uneven bars. Freshman Terin Humphrey is sixth on the uneven bars and 13th on the balance beam.
