<< Alabama Gymnastics Returns to Action Friday at LSU >>
(Friday, March 03, 2006) [ Press Releases: Archives ]

After a rare break in its schedule, the No. 4 ranked Alabama Gymnastics team returns to action this Friday at No. 7 LSU.

The meet, which starts at 7 p.m., marks the Crimson Tide's second trip to Baton Rouge, La. this season. Alabama started off 2006 by winning the LSU hosted Super 6 Challenge while the Tigers finished fourth. This season is the first since 1998 that Alabama has faced the Tigers in Baton Rouge twice in a single season.

Alabama, coming off a rare bye week, used the time away from competition to work on the basics, breaking down and fine-tuning its routines.

"We worked on the basics, working on parts of routines," head coach Sarah Patterson said. "It's not something we get to do a lot of when we're competing every weekend. This break came at the right time for us and we took advantage of it."

While Alabama has been nestled comfortably in the top-5 all season, LSU has just climbed back into top-10 after hovering outside it for a majority of the season. The Tide rolls into the Pete Maravich Assembly Center tonight with the nation's youngest team, sporting eight freshmen. The Tigers are also fairly young, with six freshmen on their roster.

Friday night's meet will be televised by Fox Sports Net on a tape-delayed basis on March 11 at 8 p.m. Fans unable to travel to see the team live in Baton Rouge, can follow it on the radio on WVUA-FM 90.7 in Tuscaloosa or online at www.bcmonsters.com. Fans can also follow the scores and commentary live on the internet at www.rolltide.com.
