<< Bama Battles Bayou Bengals >>
(Friday, February 14, 2003) [ Scouting Report: Archives ]

Alabama returns home for only the second time this season and faces #10 LSU Friday night.

The Tide is ranked #3 in the country this week and is looking forward to performing for the home crowd.

Freshman April Burkholder leads LSU in the All-around and has performed like a vetern scoring a 39.475 last week. Sophomore Jade Jenkins is also an All-arounder, but lately has competed in vault, beam and floor. Coach D.D. Breaux like Alabama's coaches, likes to spread routines around her entire team.

On vault and floor, Lauren Companioni is a strong leader. Joining her on vault will be Burkholder, Jenkins, Rikki L'Heureux, Megan Durning and Brittany Brown.

On Uneven Bars, Lindsey Beddow is known for her skills and high scores. Burkholder, L'Heareux, Annie Gagnon, Katherine Hilton and Kelly Lea will compete with her on this event.

LSU has always been consistent as a beam team and this year is no different. Look for Burkholder, Jenkins, Beddow, Durning, Companioni, and Terin Martinjak to compete.

Companioni is lively on the floor and will have strong backup from Burkholder, Jenkins, Brown, Rachel Franzella, and Chelsea Richard.

Last week at Denver, Alabama hit 23/24 routines and increased its start values on vault by competing 5 out of 6 vaults worth 10.0. Dana Pierce performed her Yurchenko 1/1 for the first time. Shannon Hrozek nailed her pike front in the lead off position and will lead off again this week along with Pierce, Lauren Holdefer, Stephanie Kite, Mari-Christine Bayer, Kristin Sterner and Jeana Rice.

On bars, Hrozek will again lead off with Pierce, Sterner, Rice. Michelle Reeser and Larissa Stewart should also make the lineup along with Dana Filetti who was under the weather last week and did not perform.

Michelle Reeser sets a confident tone for the team on beam. Following her will be teammates Pierce, Hrozek, Sterner, Bayer and Rice. Filetti, Stewart, Kite, Holdefer and Rachel Delahoussaye are just as confident and hungry for a spot in this lineup.

On floor, Sterner, Rice, Bayer, Kite, Reeser, Holdefer and Hrozek will tumble for you, but a healthy Filetti and Delahoussaye could see action.

The Tide should present the Bengal Tigers with thorns, not roses this Valentine's night in Tuscaloosa.
