<< Crimson Tide Hopes To Drown Gators In Swamp >>
(Thursday, February 20, 2003) [ Scouting Report: Archives ]

The #2 ranked Crimson Tide travels to Gainesville to tangle with the Florida Gators Friday night. Ranked # 6, the Gators are riding a five meet winning streak that Bama hopes to end in the O'Connell Center. This should turn out to be a close match between two good SEC teams

First year head coach Rhonda Fahn has helped push Florida back into the top ten with All-around gymnasts Orley Szmuch, Kara Waterhouse, and Lindsey Miner.

Starting the meet on vault, Szmuch, Waterhouse, Miner, Erin Dooley, Kimberly Schatz and Sherie Owens will compete.

On Bars, Szmuch, Waterhouse, Miner, Dooley will join Erin Pendleton (10.0 on Jan. 31st), and Kristen Stucky (9.975 this season).

Nebraska transfer Alicia Ingram will be limited to competition on Beam in her comeback from a shoulder injury. Stucky, Dooley, Miner, Szmuch, and Waterhouse will also complete on this event.

On Floor, Jenny Carow and Kelly Hesbeens could see action along with Dooley, Miner, Waterhouse, and Szmuch.

Alabama scored a season high 197.400 in last week's win against LSU. That victory was bittersweet with the injury to Freshman Mari-Christine Bayer. Tide fans are hoping for a speedy recovery for Mari, as well as Freshman Ashley Miles and the quick return of Sophomore Alexis Brion.

Bama will start on uneven bars with Shannon Hrozek, followed by Dana Pierce, SEC Gymnast of the Week Kristin Sterner, Dana Filetti, Larissa Stewart, and Jeana Rice. Bama can also count on Michelle Reeser to step in.

The Tide competed five 10.0 start value vaults last week and will continue to upgrade form and landings as the season wears on. With Miles and Bayer on the sideline, look for Lauren Holdefer to lead off, with Hrozek, Pierce, Stephanie Kite, Sterner and Rice competing.

Last week Shannon Hrozek and Michelle Reeser both earned a season high 9.95 on the floor. Look for them to compete along with Rice, Kite, Holdefer and Sterner. Filetti will also push for a spot in the lineup.

Ending the meet on beam has become familiar to this road savvy team. Reeser will lead off the team, followed by Pierce, Hrozek, Sterner and Rice.

The fourth position will be between Rachel Delahoussaye, Larissa Stewart, and Stephanie Kite who have all seen beam action this season.
