The Booster Organization for the University of Alabama Gymnastics Program
<< I like it! I love it! I want some more of it!
(Thursday, March 06, 2003) [ Scouting Report: Archives ]

Tim McGraw knows how to sing it and the Bama nation knows what it wants... Alabama gymnastics and record setting performances at Coleman Coliseum.

What a weekend this will be for fans and the storied Alabama Gymnastics program. It will be a rare afternoon meet followed by a night honoring Coach Sarah Patterson.

Smoking! That's what the Tide gymnastics team did in Coleman Coliseum last Saturday night against Auburn. By vaulting the roof off the arena and tumbling the night away to a season high score of 197.975.

Last weekend, Jeana Rice started the team off with a bang and Ashley Miles finished with perfection. The Tide now has eight 10.0 start value vaults. All-American Alexis Brion returned to the vault lineup for the first time against Auburn and looked like she had been there all season.

It will be hard to change the lineup of Rice, Brion, Kristin Sterner, Dana Pierce, Shannon Hrozek and Miles, but Stephanie Kite is ready with her pike front half and Lauren Holdefer exhibited her new ¼ on ¾ off front pike vault last week.

The lineup on bars works well with Hrozek, Michelle Reeser, Dana Filetti, Sterner, Larissa Stewart and Rice. Mari-Christine Bayer may exhibit this week and Pierce is working on a new dismount.

Balance beam could see the return of Mari-Christine Bayer to competition after sitting out two weeks with a knee sprain and flu. Also, look for Reeser, Pierce, Hrozek, Stewart, Sterner and Rice.

The Tide matched last weeks vault total of 49.625 on the floor and could score higher with the possible return of Miles to the lineup.

Reeser, Hrozek, Brion, Sterner, Rice, Kite, Filetti and Holdefer can all figure into the mix.

Kentucky is ranked #40 this week and is hoping to move up two spots in their region with a strong performance on the road. Contributing most of the routines this season has been Michelle Gales, Aronda Primault, Julia Gore and Julie Joy. Joy has been suffering from a foot injury and has missed the last couple of meets. She is doubtful for this competition.

UK begins on bars and will likely see Gore, Gales, Primault, Lindsey Cameron, Krista Prestigiacoma and Krista Roemerman.

On vault, Primault is very talented and will lead the Wildcats on this event. Gore, Gales, Cameron, Kara Prestigiacoma and Melanie Zaharias should fill the lineup.

Floor exercise will showcase the style and power of Michelle Gales. Also competing on this event will be Gore, Primault, Zaharias, along with Krista and Kara Prestigiacoma.

Mindy Smith is the beam specialist for Kentucky and is a steady and consistent performer. Joining her in the lineup will be Gales, Gore, Primault, Zaharias, and Staci O'Keefe, or Prestigiacoma.

Bear Bryant knew what he was doing when he hired Coach Sarah Patterson twenty-five years ago.

"Give the little lady what she wants..."

She's earned it!
