The Booster Organization for the University of Alabama Gymnastics Program
The Tide competes in the main arena of Coleman Coliseum. The Coliseum seats 15,043 fans at its capacity, a figure reached last season when the Tide hosted Georgia on February 1. It marked the largest crowd to ever see a gymnastics meet in Alabama and SEC history. Coleman Coliseum has hosted some of the biggest gymnastics meets in the country including the 1991 and 1996 NCAA Championships and the 1988 and 1993 SEC Championships. This season the Tide hosts the NCAACentral Regional Championship and next year, the Tide's arena will be the site of the SECChampionships.
The coliseum opened Jan. 30, 1968, with a performance of the Broadway touring production, "The Roar of the Greasepaint; the Smell of the Crowd." That presentation was followed two days later by the Alabama-Samford University men's basketball game. Since that time, the coliseum has hosted a diversity of events including commencement exercises, a visit by President Ronald Reagan, alumni gatherings, student convocations, concerts, operas, ballets and orations by political figures. Superstars who have performed on its stages include Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Reba McIntyre, Jay Leno and Hank Williams, Jr.
