Crimson Tide Gymnastics: Depth Report At Midway Point of Pre-Season (Part1)
|
>>
|
|
We present the first of two installments on the Crimson Tide Gymnastics Team’s
projected depth at midway point of the pre-season. Today we are covering
the vault and uneven bars and
will continue with the balance beam and floor exercise in a few days. The
next practice report will hopefully come right before Thanksgiving, depending
on the coaches’ workout schedule for the team this Sunday. Roll
Tide!
Vault
Once again in 2006 the Tide coaches expect to field one of the strongest vaulting
line-ups in the nation. Bama finished as the highest scoring team on
vault at the Super Six Finals and had the highest variety of vault types thrown
as well. With the recent confirmation that senior international elite, Brittany Magee, will be joining the team in time for the 2006 season,
Bama will be able to add her strong skills on all four events as well. With
the exception of senior Rachael Delahoussaye, all
gymnasts are training vault. Once again, look for a variety of vaults
to be thrown this year to prepare for the possibility of the Yurchenko 1/1
being devalued for 2007.
Note: The following projected depth charts for vault and uneven
bars are to be considered a starting point in our discussion and definitely
could be adjusted in the upcoming weeks as more information comes to light
regarding the progress of the team on these events. The first six up
are hypothetical starting positions in the rotations based upon practice/training
reports to date.
Uneven Bars
This is where several of the Tide’s incoming freshmen have a chance
to legitimately contend for line-up positions due to the fact that they have
challenging release move combinations and “D” and “E” level
dismounts. The ultimate line-up will be determined by who can hit the
big skills consistently and stick the dismount landings.
