"At first blush, the first day of official practice may seem an odd occasion for me to be thinking of that 'one day in April' - April 21, 2006, that is, the date of the National Championship team final. Well...OK, perhaps it will only seem odd to those of you who don't know me very well. It's just that, seeing the freshmen running around the gym, bumping into each other, reminds me that the seniors they are replacing, Alexis Brion, Shannon Hrozek, and Michele Reeser, always strove to be at their very best in post-season competition."

The good news just got better for Michelle Reeser, a senior All-American on Alabama's 2005 NCAA Runner-up gymnastics squad. Late last month, she was named NCAA Woman of the Year for the State of Alabama and this week it was announced that Reeser was a top-10 finalist for the prestigious national award. "I'm very, very excited and I have to say a little shocked," the Monroe, La. native said. "It has put a really nice finish on a great four years at Alabama. I was looking forward to the trip from the start, but being a top-10 finalist makes it all the better."
