TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - After back-to-back weekends on the road, the No. 4 ranked Alabama Gymnastics team returns to Coleman Coliseum Friday, Feb. 23 to face the Tar Heels of North Carolina.

"I know that after two weeks on the road, our ladies are excited to be back home competing in front of the best fans in the nation."

After three home meets this season, the Crimson Tide leads the nation in attendance, with 12,537 fans per meet, the best average by more than a 1,000 per meet. The Alabama Crimson Tide resumed their winning ways this week against SEC foe Arkansas in Fayetteville at Barnhill Arena. Following the disappointing finish at UGA last week on the beam, Bama's coaches put the team through another relentless week of practice with special emphasis on this event and the results were impressive during both the 15 minutewarm-up period and the competition itself. Bama established a team high on beam for the 2007 season at 49.350, which started off with sophomore Ashley O'Neal's 9.875 lead-off performance and ended with freshman Kassi Price's anchor performance, also at 9.875. Even sophomore Amanda Montgomery exhibited successfully on the beam with a solid 9.800, making it a 7 for 7 night for the GymTide on this event against Arkansas. The GymTide scored 197.00 to the Razorbacks' 194.175. Here are more of the highlights....[ More...]

The Alabama Crimson Tide hit another icy skid at the 21 routine mark on the road, this time against the defending national champions, the Georgia Bulldogs.  As a team, Bama was heading towards a high road score until the last three routines on beam from freshmen Dennis and Price and junior Humphrey went to that gremlin that apparently is riding along with them to meets on the road this year.  The Tide fell to fifth in the polls and will need a strong road score at Arkansas this next week in order to regain their position, as RQS scoring goes into play soon.   Look for the Tide to rebound and wrestle that beam gremlin off the plane before take-off.  Here are some of the highlights from the meet in Athens... FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Paced by an outstanding balance beam rotation, the Alabama Gymnastics team posted its highest road score of the season here in Barnhill Arena, beating the homestanding Arkansas Lady Razorbacks 197.000-194.175.

The Tide's strong beam performance came just a week after the Tide finished had three consecutive falls to finish off a road meet for the second time this season.

"To go to balance beam and have that kind of rotation was outstanding," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "I was very proud of the progress we've made. I don't think the average fan would have noticed, but some of our ladies were working very hard on their balance beam routines. They weren't dead on, but they worked through it and the result was our best score of the season on that event and getting that particular monkey off our back. I think we can take this and have confidence as we move forward. We know what we can do now."

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The No. 5 ranked Alabama Gymnastics team, after competing at home in three of its first four meets this season, is headed to its second road contest in a row this Friday, traveling to Fayetteville, Ark. where they will face No. 15 Arkansas.

The meet, held in Barnhill Arena, gets underway at 7 p.m. It will be the Crimson Tide's third trip to Fayetteville to face the LadyBacks, which added Gymnastics just five years ago. Coached by Mark and Renee Cook, the LadyBacks made it to the NCAA Championships for the first time last season, a remarkable feat for such a young program.

Coming off its dual meet at Georgia last weekend, Alabama is looking to rebound from its second three-fall balance beam performance of the season.

ATHENS, Ga. - The No. 3 ranked Alabama Gymnastics team fell to No. 2 ranked Georgia 198.000- 196.050 in front of 10,224 fans here in Stegeman Coliseum today.

"I'm disappointed that we didn't give Georgia our best today because I feel like we brought out their best," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "Once again we hit 21 routines in a row on the road and then missed our last three. We obviously cannot afford to do that."

For the Crimson Tide, a solid meet on the other three events was marred by a three-fall performance on the balance beam. The Tide started off strong on the event with sophomore Ashley O'Neal and freshmen Casey Overton and Ricki Lebegern all scoring career high marks. Overton, who went in the competitive lineup for the first time last week, scored a team-best 9.875 while O'Neal and Lebegern both went 9.85.

The Alabama Crimson Tide kept to their winning ways this week against SEC foe Kentucky in Coleman Coliseum. Bama was able to rest a few gymnasts on certain events that allowed the coaches to build some vital depth for post-season. Freshman Casey Overton demonstrated her composure on vault, balance beam and floor exercise while exeucting some very difficult skills along the way. Junior Kaitlin White hit all three of her routines as she continued to lead by example, while junior Terin Humphrey ran away with the all around title, hitting four of four herself, highlighted by a terrific floor set (9.925). TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Gymnastics team used some new faces to come up with a winning result against Kentucky Friday night, outscoring the Wildcats 196.375-193.625 in front of 10,540 fans here in Coleman Coliseum.

"I was really proud of our performance," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "I think it was a hard night, coming off of last weekend (against Auburn) and going into next weekend (at Georgia). Maybe the coaching staff had a few different goals than the team might have. One of them was to have this young lady (Ricki Lebegern) go out and do four events whether she was in competition or in exhibition and be calm and controlled. I think after the first couple of meets when she struggled a little bit on one event. I think to see her tonight to come in with much more confidence, that's where our team grows."

"Then we had an instance where another freshman, Casey Overton did three events for us tonight, one exhibition and the other two in competition," Patterson said. "She hasn't competed for us at all. Those are the kinds of things that the coaching staff looking for."

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A week after posting the nation's top score, the No. 4 ranked Alabama Gymnastics team returns to action 7:30 p.m. Friday night in Coleman Coliseum against No. 24 Kentucky with eye on taking another step forward in its journey to the NCAA Championships.

"While I'm certainly pleased with how we performed last weekend, I know that for us to be successful, we have to work on building our depth," head coach Sarah Patterson said. "We can't rely on the same people to go 13 weeks in a row and expect to be successful. We have to get some more people out on different events and develop our lineup where we are nine to 10 gymnasts deep on each event."

That doesn't mean that the Crimson Tide is overlooking the Wildcats, a team that has traditionally competed very well in Tuscaloosa. But Patterson believes that she can shuffle the lineup without a drop in scoring potential.
