TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama gymnast Kassi Price has been named to ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's At-Large First Team. It marks the second year in a row that Price has been named an Academic All-American and it is the 12th time that an Alabama Gymnast has earned the honor.

"I'm very proud of Kassi and all she's accomplished to this point in her career," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "She works extremely hard in the classroom, in the gym and in the community and her efforts certainly show."

Price is one of just three juniors named to the first team in 2009 with the rest of the 15-member at-large first team coming from the senior class. The at-large team is drawn from 13 NCAA women's sports, including swimming and diving, golf, gymnastics, tennis and rowing among others.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Five University of Alabama Student-Athletes representing five different sports earned a berth on the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV At-Large Team.

Senior swimmer Kevin Greer and junior gymnast Kassi Price both earned first team All-District while senior rower Stacy Ogle, junior diver Elizabeth Hughes and senior tennis player Saketh Myneni were named to the second team. Greer and Price are under consideration for the CoSIDA All-American At-Large teams that will be decided in the weeks to come.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Gymnastics team's second place finish at the 2009 NCAA Championships will be featured as part of the tape-delayed broadcast of the championships on CBS Saturday, May 9 from 1-3 p.m. CST.

The Crimson Tide notched its 11th top-2 finish at the championships, finishing less than three-tenths of a point behind the first-place Georgia Bulldogs. Alabama, making its 27th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, posted its highest team finish since 2005 when it also took second.

Veteran broadcasters Tim Brando and Amanda Borden were on hand to call the action from Lincoln, Neb., site of this year's championships which were held April 16-18 in the Bob Devaney Sports Center on the University of Nebraska campus.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama Athletics Department hosted its annual Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Awards Banquet Monday night in "The Zone" located in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Gymnastics and men's cross country were honored as the teams with the highest grade point averages. Both teams earned the honor after winning Southeastern Conference titles this season. Gymnastics, which won its sixth league title in March, posted a 3.62 GPA while men's cross country, which won its second SEC title in the fall, earned a 3.33.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - On the heels of winning its sixth Southeastern Conference Championship, 24th NCAA Regional title and posting a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships, the Alabama Gymnastics team also posted the highest grade point average of any University of Alabama athletics team this season.

"I am extremely proud of everything this team has accomplished and how hard they worked to succeed," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "This team's drive and determination are evident in what we accomplished on the floor and in the classroom. Our ladies know that while we strive to excel in all facets of the collegiate experience, academic success is our first priority and that is certainly evident in this honor."

Postmeet Commentaries: Crimson Tide Gymnasts Claim 2nd Place at 2009 NCAAs

The Alabama Crimson Tide Gymnastics Team capped off a roller coaster 2009 season in magnificent style, winning the SEC Championship on March 21st, the Northeast Regional on April 4th, and narrowly missed a sweep when they came in 2nd Place (197.575) to the defending NCAA champions, the Georgia Bulldogs (197.825), at the NCAA National Championships on April 17th in Lincoln, Nebraska.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Gymnastics Team celebrated a season that included the Crimson Tide's sixth Southeastern Conference Championship, 24th NCAA Regional title and 11th top-2 NCAA Championship finish with its annual awards banquet hosted by The Medalist Club, Alabama's booster organization.

The event was held Saturday night at "The Zone" located in Bryant-Denny Stadium with more then 300 in attendance.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Gymnastics team, fresh off its sixth Southeastern Conference Championship, also leads the league in the classroom with a conference-best 11 upperclassmen earning berths on the SEC Academic Honor Roll Commissioner Mike Slive announced today.

"Our priority at Alabama is to excel in all aspects of the collegiate experience," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "In a season where we won our sixth SEC Championship and finished second nationally, I am extremely proud that our ladies again led the way with 11 SEC Academic Honor Roll honors."

The Crimson Tide's total 11 honorees was four better than the next closest team and included all of the Tide's gymnasts who are a sophomore or better in academic standing. The Tide, which also won its 24th NCAA Regional title and finished second at the NCAA Championships, will add to its Academic Honor Roll total in the summer when the SEC announces its freshman honor roll.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama topped the Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll with 48 student-athletes SEC Commissioner Mike Slive announced today. Kentucky was next with 45 honorees followed by Florida with 44 student-athletes honored.

"We are extremely proud of the honors our student-athletes continue to earn in the classroom," Alabama Athletics Director Mal Moore said. "Our coaches, athletes and staff are all dedicated to achieving a very high level of academic success and the fact that we lead the conference in this area is certainly a point of pride."

LINCOLN, Neb. - A day after helping the Crimson Tide to a second-place national finish here at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, a trio of Alabama gymnasts competed in the individual event finals of the NCAA Championships.

"Our ladies gave it their all last night and came away with far and away their best performance of the season," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "They didn't hold anything back and it earned them a second place finish in one of the closest and toughest NCAA Championships I can remember. Tonight was the icing on the cake of a truly amazing season."

Freshman Ashley Priess posted the Tide's highest score and highest finish on the night, going 9.9 on the balance beam and taking third place. It was Alabama's highest finish on the beam since Jeana Rice took second place in 2004.

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Alabama Gymnastics team, fresh off its 11th top-2 finish at the NCAA Championships Friday night, will have a chance for individual titles Saturday as Crimson Tide gymnasts compete in the individual event finals.

Freshman Ashley Priess will compete on the uneven bars and balance beam. Junior Morgan Dennis will go on the uneven bars while junior Ricki Lebegern will compete on the balance beam. The individual finals get under way at 6 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on the University of Nebraska campus.

The Tide takes second with a 197.575, marking the 11th time the Tide has finished the season among the nation's top two teams.

LINCOLN, Neb. - Sarah Patterson told her team over and over - "Finish strong."

A month ago, that motto took the Alabama Gymnastics team to its sixth Southeastern Conference Championship and tonight it took the Crimson Tide to its highest score of the season and a runner-up finish here at the NCAA Championships just behind the University of Georgia.

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Alabama Gymnastics team, which won the evening session of the NCAA Championship preliminaries to advance to Friday's Super Six Team Finals, will start the night on the vault the NCAA committee announced late Thursday night.

The Crimson Tide drew the same rotation teams get for a home meet. After starting on the vault, Alabama will go to the first of two byes, and then the uneven bars and balance beam, then its second bye before finishing off the night on the floor exercise.

The Alabama Gymnastics team started off solid, got stronger as the night went on and came away with the highest score of the evening session, a 197.025 here at the NCAA Championships, advancing to Friday night's Super Six Team Finals.

"We are just so thrilled to be advancing," head coach Sarah Patterson said. "Each year, when we start the season in September, the goal is to be on the floor the last night of the season with a chance to win the championship, and so to do that you have to put yourself in a position where you advance. We have achieved that goal tonight and now tomorrow night we are just going to go out there and lay it all on the line."

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Alabama Gymnastics team, the 2009 Southeastern Conference and NCAA Northeast Regional Champions, traveled to Lincoln, Neb. on Tuesday and went through the 2009 NCAA Gymnastics Championships practice day here at the Bob Devaney Sports Center today. Now all that's left is competition and for the Crimson Tide, a shot at a fifth national title.

"We had a good day here," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "We came in and adjusted to the equipment and just tried to stay loose and get ready. Tomorrow is when the fun really gets started."

Thursday, day one of the NCAA Championships, will feature two sessions with six teams in each. The top-three teams from each of the sessions will move on to Friday's Super Six Team Final. Alabama has finished among the nation's top-six team 24 times over the past 26 years.
